Create a comb for his head by using a piece of carded fiber about 4 inches wide, 4 inches long, and 1 inch high. Separate the top into four distinct points. Needle this by rolling the edges in toward the center of each point, flipping it over often and needling from both sides until it is firm. Remember to leave the end fluffy to secure it to the head.

Line up the comb before needling it securely into place. Attach it to the head by needling the fluffy part. Create a point when securing it, and it will blend nicely into the design on the body.

The ears are a simple almond shape, or they can be oval if you prefer. Add a bit of another color for the inside. Remember to always leave one end of the fiber fluffy to attach it to the head.

For the horns, choose a color that you used in the body to maintain balance. Leave the bottom ¼ inch fluffy and make a conical shape, just like the teeth. Make as many as you like, small or large.

Use black wool for the nostrils and tap it into two oval shapes, one on each side of the snout.

Fill in the pupil center and add a small dab of fiber going straight across or up and down.

Line up the head with the body and use a needle and thread to make a few stitches underneath to sew them together.

DESIGN TIP:

There are many variations for this design that you can try to give your dragon different looks. In this example, I used an almond-shaped eye to make him fierce and more reptilian. I also love the flowing mane; the strands were created using the same needling technique used for making the teeth.
